alamina, known as Koulouri since antiquity, is the largest island in the Saronic Gulf and the closest to the coast of Attica. It is located in the northwestern part of the Saronic Gulf, right across Elefsina Gulf (southwest of Attica Prefecture).[1]Its namesake is the main settlement on the island. With a population of 39,220 people,[2] covering an area of 95 square kilometres, this is the island with the highest density of permanent residents in Greece. During summer season and especially during summer months, the population of Salamina soars and amounts at approximately 280,000 people.
Beaches

Forests
The island boasts two beautiful pine forests. Faneromeni Forest is located at the northwestern side of the island and is ideal for hiking and jogging, whereas Kanakia Forest is situated on the southern tip of the island and it is the largest woodland area in Western Attica. This forest is ideal for half-day or full-day excursions.
Entertainment
Choices that will definitely thrill food lovers abound in the island's main settlement, as well as in other areas such as: Selinia, Vasilika, Resti, Ag. Georgios, Eantio and Kaki Vigla. You should definitely try fresh fish, seafood and grilled octopus along with a glass of ouzo in the traditional tavernas. Salamina has a lot of picturesque seaside cafes where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a long drink by the sea while marvelling at the magnificent sunset. In addition, the island offers quite a vibrant night scene. There are many night clubs not just for the young but also for those who feel young at heart, as well as many bars with live music to party until dawn.
Transportation – Taxi Service
Transportation services are very frequent. A boat or ferry runs every 15 minutes from Perama to Paloukia and back (15-minute journey). There is also a line connecting Paloukia with Piraeus (45-minute journey). Ferries run nonstop around the clock. There is another ferry line that operates from Faneromeni to Nea Peramos (3-minute journey). You can get around the island either by public bus (KTEL) or taxi.
